Gender stereotypes in advertising were very prominent years ago and have mellowed out some but not nearly enough. Typically we see women being portrayed as housewives or as objects to their husbands which are the most common stereotypes for women. With this series, I am aiming to bring light to the issue that in this society things that have once been deemed masculine are normal activities that should have no gender tied to them. While making masculine, and feminine, I am also breaking the “bimbo” stereotype for women.
My influences for this work started from a TikTok by an artist named Taylor Cook who created a piece called Women at the Poker Table. I wanted to build on her idea while also making it stand for something more than just the views she was receiving.
